On behalf of the EFGA, Wally Nicklin recently put forward a letter to our local MP asking for his stance on Bill S-223, as well as their general position on gun control.

We are pleased to share the response from Jim Eglinski, Conservative MP for Yellowhead.

Further, we’re looking forward to Mr. Eglinski attending one of our future monthly meetings.

Wally,

Thank you for your email concerning Liberal Senator CĂ©line Hervieux-Payette’s Bill S-223, the so-called “Strengthening Canadians’ Security and Promoting Hunting and Recreational Shooting Act’.

This legislation places a number of unnecessary and onerous restrictions on law-abiding firearms owners in Canada. The 76 page bill proposes a number of measures that criminalize law-abiding firearms owners and significantly restrict the ability of gun owners engage in recreational shooting activities.

The legislation proposes to change the current “Restricted” classification of firearms to “Circumscribed” and create new regulations that impose restrictions on the transport, storage, and use of this new class of firearms — including a requirement that these firearms to be stored only at designated facilities.

Furthermore, the legislation proposes to introduce a system of “inscription” which would essentially require circumscribed weapons to be registered with the Federal Government.
This is yet another Liberal attempt to create a back-door firearms registry and criminalize law-abiding gun owners.

I have already received many emails and letters from concerned firearms owners, such as yourself, informing of their opposition to this Liberal Senator’s bill. I can assure you that as the Official Opposition, our Conservative Party will stand up for law-abiding firearms owners. Should you wish to start a petition against this bill, you can do so at: https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Home/Index . Here you should find instructions and information for creating, circulating, and submitting a petition. Please note, you need a minimum of 25 signatures.

I want to reassure you, I will stand up against measures that seek to impose undue and unnecessary restrictions on law-abiding firearms owners.

Wally, I have forwarded your request to my riding office to schedule me to attend one of the Edson Fish and Game Association monthly meetings. Let them know the date(s).

Sincerely,

Jim Eglinski, MP
Yellowhead
