Proposed Wildlife Regulation Amendment for 2016 Hunting Season
Align start date of moose general seasons in WMUs 340, 342 and 346
with other ungulate general seasons
1. Current Strategy:
• Currently the moose general season begins 1 week after general seasons for the other ungulates in WMUs 340, 342 and 346.
• This misalignment means archery seasons for moose overlaps with general seasons for the other ungulates by 1 week.
2. Evidence to Support Change:
• As detailed in the Wildlife Hunting Regulations 2015.
3. Recommended Change:
• Bring the moose general season into alignment with general seasons for the other ungulates in WMUs 340, 342 and 346.
• The objective for this change is to ensure archery seasons do not overlap with general seasons in these WMUs. Other WMUs in the Edson area (337, 338 and 339) have aligned general seasons already.
4. Anticipated Public Reaction and Public Consultation:
• General moose season hunters should have no complaints as their season will be 1 week longer.
• Archery moose season hunters may complain as their archery season will be 1 week shorter.
• Change suggested by Edson District Officer.
