During the past year our Association, through the hard work of the New Range Committee, has secured the property on which we will construct the new Edson and area range. This accomplishment comes at a time where we are seeing an alarming number of ranges temporarily closed or permanently shut down and as such we spent significant time securing our bylaws and constitution to make sure this range prioritizes members who live in this area. The executive recognizes that this range is farther from town but feels it will be rewarding for our members to have access to a range that boasts 1600M targets and separate pistol bays to accommodate pistol competition.
To help the Association facilitate the development of the new range we have seen it necessary to increase our membership fees from $60 to $80 for the 2014 membership year. This increase will be used to begin construction of the new range, and maintain the current property, until such time as we make the official move. The Association will be seeking sponsorship, lottery funds, and in kind donations in the new year to also offset the costs of construction.
As our 2013 year came to a close and what we hope was a successful hunting season ends. The Edson and Area witnessed the willful and illegal killing of big game animals at an unprecedented rate in our area. This atrocious act not only impacts the hunters in our area but all people who have an interest in the outdoors and wildlife conservation. As a hunter, sportsman, and outdoor enthusiast, I encourage any and all members to not sit back and tolerate this horrible behavior. Please report all information of illegal, wildlife related, activity to the local Fish and Wildlife office at 780.723.8244.
