As many of you know by now, Justin Trudeau has launched an attack against Canadian firearm owners. A very non-democratic ‘Order in Council’ instantly banned over 1500 common and legal firearms.

Not an attack against criminals, but against law-abiding citizens.

With a stroke of a pen, over 2 million Canadians can now face criminal charges for owning one of any of the newly prohibited rifles.

A full list of the prohibited rifles can be seen here:

What Can We Do?

There is currently a gross amount of misinformation concerning the use, transportation, confiscations, grandfathering, and buy-backs of the newly prohibited firearms. Until details about the Liberal’s framework surrounding the ban come to light, stay calm and prepare to get involved.

As recommended by our various firearm organizations, keep your prohibited rifles locked in your safe as we get ready to help with the upcoming battle to defend all Canadians’ freedoms and rights. In the comings weeks, we’ll need a coordinated effort to engage all our elected officials and contribute time and resources to the various organizations who are on the front lines.fighting this onerous and illicit ban.

EFGA’s Stance

Trudeau and Bill Blair have demonstrated a shocking amount of ignorance as to the current Canadian Firearms Act. He constantly misrepresents all facets of our firearm laws, spreading lies concerning everything from transport authorizations, current regulations, licensing, statistics, and process. There is no such thing as an ‘assault rifle’, and ‘military rifles’ are fully automatic weapons which have not been available in Canada for over a half-century.

Nothing surrounding the attacks on Canadian firearm owners will have any positive impact on public safety. Law enforcement would love to have even a fraction of the funds equal to the tax dollars pledged toward the bans. Put money toward real societal issues such as housing, poverty, and mental health.

Every thinking Canadian among us abhors the absolute tragic loss life when criminals perpetrate acts of violence. Our Liberal government chooses to exploit horrific incidents for political gain by giving Canadians the impression they are doing something about the root causes of gun violence.

Time and time again, gun offences are committed by people who never qualified for a PAL and obtained firearms illegally from outside of Canada.

Even more concerning, the method in which he is attacking firearm owners should greatly concern ALL Canadians. This fight is so much more than about firearms.

Back in March, The Trudeau government has shown a complete disregard for the Canadian Constitution. Under the cloud of COVID-19, they introduced Bill C-13 which attempted to seize an unprecedented and underhanded amount of power. It would have opened new avenues of taxation and allowed for a spending to an extent we have never seen before. All without Parliamentary oversight.

Sound familiar?

Unlike the current OIC concerning the firearm ban, the Conservatives, NDP, and Bloc were able to debate the bill, causing the offending clauses to be immediately pulled.

There is a reason bills are debated before a senate. All important issues should be addressed in a democratic way and stand-up against scrutiny.

But no such parliamentary oversight occurred.

Now overnight, Canadians who complied with all the rules, have spent thousands of dollars with government permission, and practice their sport safely, are now facing serious criminal persecution.

This cannot be allowed to happen.

Join Our Firearms Organizations

The EFGA strongly urges all members to join our various firearm lobby groups. Membership costs are inexpensive and vital. We need to help empower ALL groups who are on the front-lines fighting for our rights and traditions.

Joining as many firearm groups as you can is also the best way to help ensure you receive accurate and up-to-date information, as well as present many different opportunities to get involved in the fight.

Sign The Petitions

A pair of new petitions need your signatures:

Put forth by Michelle Rempel Garner (Calgary Nose Hill, Conservative Caucus):
https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-2574

“We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Prime Minister to immediately scrap his government’s May 1, 2020, Order in Council decision related to confiscating legally owned firearms and instead pass legislation that will target criminals, stop the smuggling of firearms into Canada, go after those who illegally acquire firearms, and apologize to legal firearms owners in Canada.”

Put forth by Todd Doherty (Cariboo, Prince George, Conservative Caucus):

“We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to immediately repeal the Order in Council issued May 1, 2020.”

Contact our Local MLA and MP
Petitions are an important tool, but contacting politicians directly always sends a more powerful message. A hand written letter, phone call, or visit carries so much more weight than a signature. Direct and personal contact is remembered.

Although our local representation generally support our shooting sports, they need to do everything they can to bring our fight directly to Ottawa.

Make sure as many Members of Parliament and The Legislative Assembly also hear your voice:

As always, be respectful and stay on point.

Going Forward

The EFGA is planning to work closely with multiple organizations to help optimize needed resources and funds. We will be extending invitations to key individuals to work with our club and keep our membership informed and involved.

Make no mistake – this first step is a calculated political move in which the end goal is to see the complete termination of civilian ownership of all firearms. In the days following the initial ban, we’ve already seen it extend to certain hunting rifles and shotguns. We all know a handgun ban is imminent.

Sitting idle is no longer an option. Doing nothing will only help Trudeau and Blair.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to reach out.
