To see a Grizzly up close in the Wild is an amazing experience that can be described with a wide range of adjectives depending on the circumstances. For me its a humbling reminder that not all creatures view us as the top of the food chain . If you have some photos you have taken of a Grizzly Bear In Alberta we invite you to share your photo and story on our website.
Bear Photos
The Grizzly Bear used to seem like a mythical creature to me as I rarely ever saw a Bear and occasionally would see the tracks of this impressive creature. There was considerable debate about the status of this animal in Alberta and an effort was made to survey populations along the Eastern Slopes of Alberta. This established population estimates which could then be re-counted to determine whether numbers may be increasing or decreasing.
Recent information form the Grizzly Bear recount indicates that the numbers have more then doubled in the one portion of the survey area that they re-surveyed. Many of our members are reporting that they are seeing Grizzly Bears much more frequently then they have in the past. Some have had the opportunity to get some great photos of Grizzlies and we thought it would be interesting to start a Grizzly Photo page that includes a description of the circumstances and the location of the picture. Many Grizzlies have unique markings and it may be possible to identify some of the individuals.
Andrew Espenhain of Hinton Alberta had an up close and personal chance to take photos of A Grizzly eating a cow Elk on the outskirts of Hinton. Andrew had noticed a Cow Elk Road kill and when he drove past on his way out he noticed it had been buried. He came back with his trail camera to find this Bear already on his meal and Andrew was able to take the pictures from his vehicle with one foot on his gas pedal. Thank-you Andrew for these amazing Photos.
