During some recent range maintenance, we found evidence of some pretty boneheaded behaviour. It would appear that someone decided setup a dangerous and prohibited target.

Whoever this was went to our steel pile and removed several pieces of pipe. These were then setup as targets on the short range. To further illustrate a complete disregard to rules and common sense, a rock approximately 14″ long and 10″ high was placed on the cross-arm of the 25 meter target boards.

With this marvel of engineering in place, they then proceeded to shoot at these objects with what appears to be something in the .30 caliber range. Violating even more rules, a target was attached to the distance marker sign, as well as stapling balloons to the target board supports.

Any questions as to ‘why not use the actual target boards?’ would be a good one. Maybe they figured that the target supports were either indestructible or were doing too good of a job holding up actual targets? We’d love to know the thought process (re: lack thereof) that led to this setup.

Ultimately, this behaviour is completely unacceptable. It is both in violation of the range rules as well as completely ignorant. They not only exposed themselves to extreme danger of steel rock and bullet fragments, but also to everyone else who was in the vicinity.

Unfortunately this will have to serve as an example of what NOT to do. On so many levels. If anyone witnesses this or any other disregard to our range rules and safety, please let us know.

We need to work together to help ensure safe and respectful range conditions.
